However, I went to Pet Co. website, and they ship, so you might want to call the store in Long Beach and find out if it's more cost effective to ship your stuff. Even if the cost is about the same, it's WAY more convenient than having to shlep everything. Let UPS shlep for you. :D Best of luck !! This is the trade off for living in such a pretty place that is also remote.

I've never heard of a waiting list to move to Catalina, I know there are homes being sold right now. However, it's generally hard to find a place to rent, unless you know someone who owns property there, or one is looking for a very expensive rental. I know someone who moved back there a couple of weeks ago, they used to live there and decided to move back to go back to teaching SCUBA. Temporary workers move there for the summer, often the employer can tell temp workers about available rentals/roommates. There is a waiting list for bringing a car to the island, probably about 10 - 15 years, and there is a waiting list to sublease moorings at the coves, it ranges from about 10 - 30+ years depending on the cove.

Avalon is the only town on Catalina Island. It is a VERY expensive place to live. Everything on the island has to come there by boat. There are fer cars. The last time I was there there was only one grocery store. Jobs are limited due to the limited population, and most are tourist oriented. Other than the "touristy" things, there isn't much to do there.

Just call them. Most hotels have a 4:00 PM check in and a noon or 11:00 am check out, but Catalina probably times theirs to the shuttle boats.

Check it out on the internet. Look up the property or area it is in and get some community information. You can look up crime statistics, neighborhood statistics, etc. using those terms. Also local newspapers. Good luck

There are 3600 total people that live on Catalina and about 2000 in Avalon. It's a very, very small town where everyone knows each other. Tourism is the main business in town. I don't believe there is a tattoo parlor. There is a Humane Society on the island. The website is below. Avalon School is k-12 and the website is below. Look on the websites below. The Chamber of Commerce lists the businesses on the island and is very informative. There isn't a Whole Foods. Either grow your organic produce yourself or take the ferry to the Whole Foods in Long Beach. Shopping is a Von's, a hardware store, a liquor store and a drugstore. The residents have to shop on the mainland for the majority of their needs. That has to get very expensive. You've probably noticed that getting around by golf cart is the main mode of transportation, although there are shuttle buses.
