Can I observe the Leonid Meteor Shower from Mt. Baldy, CA?

Probably, as long as you are a ways from city lights and facing east. Look for the constellation Leo rising in the east. You want to be relaxed so lie on the hood of your car against the windshield, and bring a blanket and tea, coffee or cocoa. It begins around 1 am with best viewing around 2, and ending around 5 am

Has anyone ever been to Jacobs grave in mt baldy Ca.?

Nobody's given out the exact coordinates for the grave site, which is in a turnout on the road to Mt. Baldy Village. As you head up the hill, it's on the left side, just below Mt. Baldy Village. It would be virtually impossible to find at night, since it's such a dark road. Your best bet is to find it in the daytime, note the mile marker (visible in the pictures below in the background), then come back at night. According to a San Bernardino newspaper, in the late 1870s, the 50-year-old Shinner was among a group of miners searching for gold in the canyon. One day he left the camp and went up a side canyon not far from the Hogback area. Somehow, the account goes, Skinner was caught in a rockslide, killing him at the spot. He was buried well up the canyon slope, though the site is now only about 15 yards off Mt. Baldy Road. A gravestone has been placed on the site, though it has on occasion received some vandalism, perhaps some of which coming from latter-day ghost seekers. http://www.diffenbacher.com/photos/2007/jacob/grave.htm

What is the name of that snow play area in Mt. baldy, ca. ?

Couldn't tell you...but you might have more luck getting an answer if you didn't post in the Seattle section. Mt. Baldy is about 1100 miles away.

Mt. Baldy, CA camping??

Mt Baldy is in the Angeles National Forest. http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/angeles/ The previous official site wasn't very good so you might find this site more informative. http://www.forestcamping.com/dow/pacficsw/ang.htm

Mt Baldy CA ski resort directions?

here are directions to get there From 210: Exit Mountain Ave in Upland, drive north on Mountain Ave. After a few lights you will see a stop sigh, continue straight (north). When secont stop sign appear, continue slightly left (west) onto Mountain Ave. Continue passing dam on your left and Ranger station on your right. After the ranger station, you will cross small bridge. Take the next turn right (north) uphill onto Mt Baldy Rd. Continue 4 miles to the village and other 3 miles to Ski Lifts. or Exit Baseline Rd., Claremont, When on Baseline go west, to MonteVista/Padua Ave. Turn North on Padua, follow for a mile to the next light (always blinking red). Turn East (right) onto Mt Baldy Rd. Follow the Mt Baldy Rd. for about 7 miles to the Village and other 3 miles up to Ski lifts. also call them if you need anymore help with getting there 909-982-0800

Bear vs Baldy vs Mt High (CA)?

Yeah, Bear Mountain will have the longest lines. If you like waiting for 15 minutes to take a 2 minute run then go to Bear. Im heading to Mammoth this weekend, its worth the drive to not have to wait in lift lines.

Compare Mt. Whitney to Mt. Baldy (San Antonio)?

Please add what route you are going to climb Mt. Whitney so that we can answer your question (main trail, mountaineers route, etc) Good Luck [Edit] I assume you are going to take the main trail. The parking lot is at 8500ft and the top is 12,450 so you have about 4,000ft to climb in about 7 miles (don't remember the distance each way exactly). The trail isn't that steep and there are hundreds of switch backs which the rangers make sure you don't cut. There is water a couple of places in the first part of the hike, but none up high so you will need to carry enough for the summit if you are filtering. You probably will be stopped and asked for your permit, so make sure you have one. The mountaineer's route doesn't require a permit except for overnight, but it is a much more difficult trail with a lot of route finding - you would be best to follow someone. The weather at the top is very unpredictable and it can blow or snow any day of the year including August or September - but those are usually good times to go. Bring water, food and extra clothing. I have seen many people at the top with a bottle of water and no jacket shivering. It is an amazing view at the top and you can actually get cell service most days. Have fun!

Why are people dumping snow on their trucks?

So they can bring it home and play in it or for their kids my dad did that when i was little

Where can I stay on a low-budget on Mt. Baldy?

Need advice about burning almond firewood please.?

Burning Almond is as good as Oak......Your Almond must be too wet to burn. If it was just cut I would not burn til next year. You have to let it dry completely before you burn it.... If you go to the market and see those pre packaged firewood, look at how dry they are..........
