This school is a well run Christian preschool. I agree that parental involvement is a little lacking but I'm not sure that it makes much difference to the kids - they are surrounded by lots of nice, fun, supportive teachers and aides. I also agree with the prior reviewer who said that the school handles issues poorly. This is our second year, however, and our teacher last year was great. This is a good, safe, well run school that I would recommend unless you are concerned about a solid academic program for young children - this and their communication/involvement with parents are probably their weakest areas.

While the teachers are nice for the most part after 2 years I have found the curriculum lacking in academics. I found the school handled any issues that I brought up rather poorly. I suspect that most of the additional reviews are by members of the church, and while I respect the enthusiasm take [I] it with a grain of salt.

This is our son's second year at this school and we have loved it both years. It is very well run by the administration and the teachers have been there a long time. Our son was very shy the first year and his teachers really helped him to come out of his shell. The pre-school program is a good balance of developmentally appropriate activities and crafts and beginning academics. My son also loved Mrs. Scoville, the lady who reads a 15 minute Bible story a few times a week. The school is also very safe. I don't agree with the person that said that there is little parental involvement. Both years I have seen a very high degree of parental involvement with parents volunteering with everything from readintg stories to the kids to clean up after the Thanksgiving Feast. I highly recommend this wonderful school.

I believe the Toddler Program is understaffed. I recommend the Preschool and Kindergarten Programs.

Academically it is among the best I've seen as they have their own workbook they use for pre-K. Some teachers are better than others but they seem short staffed on several occassions that I volunteerd. There are 10 mandatory volunteer hours or you forfeit $200. Sadly, most parents just pay the money. Not many extracurricular activities but their focus is academics. Most of the teachers have been teaching for a while.

Overall, we found Lake Avenue to be a great place for our daughter to go to a year and a half of preschool. They really use the tuition money to do great crafts, put on clever holiday programs, and offer good experiences for the kids. They have their act together as an organization, and our daughter loved the daily Bible stories, too.

My grandson has come here for five years. I've been very happy with the teachers, the love, and the environment. I really think this is a good school.

While the level of parent involvement is low, the dedication of the staff and teachers is incredibly high. Daily bible stories, attentive & loving care, and teachers who are understanding and easy to communicate with make this a great place for your child!

LACS is a non-profit, faith-based school that is affordable for many income levels. My daughter has attended since 2002. The teachers are incredibly loving, caring and attentive. The Adminsitration listens to parents and makes every effort to assist with any requests. Children recieve regular evaluations so that parents knows if their son/daughter is on track. LACS has a great Parent Fellowship group that does a lot of work for the school (although parent involvement could be better). All in all - I am extremely pleased with Lake Avenue, and plan on having my daughter attend through kindergarten.
